Chairman's Statement

Dear [[firstname]]

Behind the scenes are a group of volunteers who all work hard to ensure the clubs onward success and non more than John Baldwin who has stood down as Chairman and on behalf of the members it is a very big thank you. John has agreed to finish what we have started and will continue to work as vice chairman for at least another term.

It is with some certainty that I can state the past years have been difficult for us all but we have, with the generosity of the members, committee and staff, been able maintain standards and in some areas improve our facilities. It is my view that as a private members club we need to keep all of our facilities to a high standard not just for existing users but to attract new members and it is these new members that will enable us to implement our planned improvements, such as a members room, the replacement of the timber cladding as well as keeping our courts to the highest standards, to name a few whilst keeping fees at a competitive level.

My vision is to bring back the families and the buzz of old. With the continued use or targeted social media campaigns and keep our much improved website both up to date but more importantly seen by potential users we are know for certain that our offers and facilities are now not going unnoticed but this alone is not a solution. As a unique sports club we need to get the children and juniors of all ages in greater numbers back as these are the future. This will take time and by no means be easy but I honestly believe that by working with the coaches, schools and parents we can succeed but then we must look at how we engage with the younger generations so a proportion of them are playing Thursday night doubles in 40yrs!

We must be ambitious, forward thinking on one hand but continue to be prudent and careful on another - this balance is key as stagnation will not help us achieve our goals. The increase in the number of people paying subscriptions, using the bar, playing squash, playing snooker, training in the gym, attending classes or simply relaxing in front of the TV will all generate revenue which we will plough back to ensure continued improvements and sustainability for all to enjoy.

Yours sincerely

David Goodridge
